Skalka pri Kremnici
We go to Skalka only in summer. Athletics, uphill running, dry slaloms, an inline circuit, a large gym, wellness, and via ferratas make it an excellent multisport base.
We go to Skalka only in summer
For us, Skalka is a summer training baseWe don’t come here for winter ski training camps, but for several days of intensive all-around training, where we can alternate endurance, strength, coordination, rollerskates, athletics and recovery without unnecessary transfers.
We hold our summer camp here together with the girls’ basketball club Slovan Bratislava. Two different sports, but a very similar need: children should move a lot, in varied ways and with quality.
Loko view: Skalka is exactly the kind of place where you run uphill in the morning, do athletics at midday, rollerblade or use the gym in the afternoon, and finally switch the kids off in the wellness area in the evening. At least in theory. :)
Almost two-kilometre inline circuit
One of Skalka’s biggest advantages is the 1,77 km inline track. For us, it is great precisely because it is not a flat promenade. It has turns, descents and climbs, so children have to work with balance, stance, speed and proper weight transfer.
On roller skates, we can do longer endurance blocks as well as shorter technical exercises. For a skier, it is a very good summer workout for the legs and stability without snow.
Athletics, hills and dry slalom
The surroundings offer fantastic conditions for athletics, hiking and hill runs. The terrain profile allows us to do short sprints uphill, longer endurance work and strength-and-conditioning training.
We also really like doing dry slalom drills here. Cones, changes of direction, reaction, rhythm and footwork are simple exercises, but these are exactly the skills that then transfer to snow.
Large playground and huge gym
We have access to a large grassy field with an asphalt loop around it, so in one place we can combine games, athletics drills, relays and conditioning blocks.
When we need a change or the weather sends us indoors, a big advantage is the huge multipurpose gym. This is where our monkey courses, circuit training, coordination stations and everything else come to life, where children often don’t even realize how much training they have actually done.
Fitness room and recovery
For older children and Teens, a pleasant extra is also the gym facilities. We are not aiming for bodybuilding, but for appropriate strength training, stability, core work and compensatory exercises.
And after training, we have one tradition at Skalka: recovery in the wellness center. The relaxation center right at the resort offers a pool, saunas and other sports facilities, so after a demanding day we can add proper recovery too, not just another training session.
Via ferratas are a big attraction for older kids
For older children, one of the biggest bonuses of Skalka is via ferratas. They are not the core of our ski training, but as part of a summer camp they bring exactly what we want: movement, coordination, working with your own body, a bit of adrenaline and an experience the children look forward to.
That is also why we keep coming back to Skalka. Not because of one perfect sports area, but because in a small space we can put together a very varied summer training week.
