Lackenhof am Ötscher
A compact Austrian resort with both family slopes and a race-training character. For the club, it’s excellent for training camps where we want lots of quality runs without unnecessary transfers.
Small resort, lots of training
Lackenhof does not aim to be a huge resort. And that is often an advantage for a club training camp. 19 km of runs are laid out so we can stay together in a compact area, switch terrain quickly, and not lose half the day to transfers.
Loko view: for children, the number of kilometres on the map is not what matters. What matters is how many quality runs we can make on a suitable slope.
Ötscher has two faces
On the one hand, Lackenhof is friendly for families and younger skiers. Sunny Kids Park, easier slopes, and the gentler Kleiner Ötscher create space for calm learning and technique work.
On the other hand, the resort has a sporting tradition and runs of different difficulty levels. Wider slopes and black sections offer terrain where we can gradually increase training intensity.
What we can train here
- basic technique for younger groups,
- slalom and giant slalom,
- turn rhythm on easy-to-read slopes,
- working on steeper terrain,
- children’s independence in a compact resort,
- race runs on a suitably reserved slope.
Why Lackenhof is good for the club
For a multi-day training camp, we appreciate the short distances. The coach can change the program without a logistical operation across the whole mountain range. Younger groups stay on easier slopes, older ones can go to more sporting terrain, and everyone remains in one area.
The official winter profile states 19 km of slopes and six cable cars and lifts. The area stretches from Lackenhof at an altitude of around 810 m toward Ötscher and up into high-mountain terrain. It is not a glacier, so when planning we watch the current snow, temperatures, and the availability of training runs.
Not just skiing
The area around Ötscher is strongly sporty even beyond alpine skiing. For us, though, the heart of every visit is always quality time on skis and well-structured training.
